We asked our current students and former graduates to tell us about their experience at the DeLand School of THE BIBLE. Here’s what they said.
DSB Alumni Q&A
Why did you want to attend The DeLand School of THE BIBLE?
I got serious about serving the Lord and studying the Bible at the age of 13. Shortly thereafter, I was introduced to Brother James' teaching and the ministry of Bible Baptist in Deland. I began preparing for the ministry as a teenager, and while I wasn't certain what area of ministry the Lord would have me pursue, I knew that I needed to equip and prepare myself with a thorough Bible education. I knew that studying at DSB would lay a foundation that would prepare me for a life of Christian service in whatever direction the Lord might send me.
I had enjoyed the Bible teaching of the Bible Baptist Church before they offered online classes. I was constantly ordering CDs of the preaching to listen and learn. So when they launched the correspondence courses I jumped on it.
I knew I wanted to attend DeLand School of the Bible because I needed some training in order to effectively and accurately divide the word of God. I realized that I didn't have what I needed up until that point. So, the DSB was a godsend and answer to my prayers.
I wanted to gain a better understanding of God's word, so that I could become a better witness for the Lord. I want to be ready to give an answer to those who ask me questions regarding my faith 1 Peter 3:15. At my church there are opportunities to preach and I would like to be better equipped to serve in that way.
To learn more about the Bible and to grow spiritually.
I was looking for a Bible school or college that believed God’s word is preserved...and that we can study from it WITHOUT having to alter, change or re-translate any of the words. I also wanted to attend because of the emphasize on public evangelism and the emphasize on Jesus Christ as the preeminence in all things. I was not looking to learn how to become a “good Baptist” or a “good Fundamentalist”. I was looking for a school that would help me become a “good Bible believer”! I found this to be true at The DeLand School of THE BIBLE.
I wanted to attend the DeLand School of THE BIBLE because I wanted a school where I can learn straight from the Bible with no added stuff.
I knew that I would receive the best Bible teaching there is. No matter what a man, or a denomination teaches, the Word of God is the final authority.
To learn how to study, teach and preach the Bible for the rest of my life.
I wanted a school and church that could provide me with an excellent Bible education, not only for preparation to enter the ministry but also to provide a base of truth for my entire life. The fact that I could exercise what I learned by public ministry and other ministry opportunities set this school far ahead of any others.
I enrolled in DSB to learn the word of God more perfectly so I could minister the word of God more perfectly to others.
To learn the Bible.
To learn the preserved King James Bible so that I may live a life pleasing to my Saviour Jesus Christ.
I knew living for Christ brings the greatest joy in life, and I wanted to learn the Bible better to know how to live more for Him.
To learn expository teachings from God's word.
To learn the Bible in preparation to serve God in whatever area He calls.
I wanted to take classes from The DeLand School of THE BIBLE so that I could grow in my understanding of the scriptures and be better equipped to serve the Lord with my life.
What do you like most about The DeLand School of THE BIBLE?
The word of God is the final authority, and Jesus Christ receives the pre-eminence. Never once did any teacher criticize, change, or cast doubt on the King James Bible. I was not just taught to believe it, I was taught why to believe it. I was not just taught to believe it, I was taught to follow it in every area of life and ministry for the purpose of pleasing God.
The amount of Bible teaching. The low cost is my second favorite part.
What I like most about the Deland School of the Bible is that they didn't try to talk you out of your faith in scriptures unlike so many other programs and educational programs. At DSB, God is the authority through the Scriptures.
What I like most about DSB is that that the Bible is believed and that the instructors never cast any doubt on the King James Bible.
I love the in-depth studies! I learn so much every class!
Since I didn’t want a school that gave me “book” knowledge ONLY. I liked the hands on approach to learning where I could be involved with and see first hand how a healthy church should Biblically operate: from church activities, to Sunday service, to public evangelism, etc...Also, since I wanted a school that WOULDN’T treat me like just another number or just another student to push through. I liked that the teachers were truly interested in helping their students and how personal attention was given to answering questions. Finally, I sincerely value the fact that I was able to bring my 6 year old son with me to Bible school. I would not have been able to create these memories with him if I attended a larger Bible college.
I have really enjoyed the in depth Bible study we have in Bible school and I love how the church has so many ministry opportunities and that the members don't have to be asked to serve the Lord.
I like how personal class seems to be. Brother James and the other teachers actually care and really want to help prepare us for future work in the ministry.
The people at DSB actually believe the KJV Bible is inspired and preserved without Greek and Hebrew or casting any doubt upon the pure text of our KJV Bible and also the practical application of the scriptures applied in the daily lives of the people at DSB.
1. There is no fluff. When you come to class, you can expect an uncompromising stance on the word of God, and you can expect to hear good, well thought out, well studied teaching.
2. While the teachers are unwilling to compromise on the word of God, they are very patient and you can tell that they all genuinely care about the spiritual well being of the student.
3. You have the opportunity to participate in public ministry. Not only can you participate, but you will be guided and taught how to witness, pass out tracts, and street preach.
The concentrated focus on teaching the actual words of God in the Holy Bible is what I enjoy most.
The focus is solely on the teaching of the Scriptures.
No teacher at DSB corrects the word of God but teaches the scriptures as God preserved them in His word.
I like the fact that the Bible is always treated as the final authority, not a teacher's or commentator's opinions. We are encouraged to read the Bible for ourselves, and challenged to believe it.
Teaching is to the point, yet detailed. There is no sugar coating to ease the conscience of the listeners.
The amount of Bible knowledge that is taught.
The thing I appreciate most about The DeLand School of THE BIBLE is that what is taught is proven and confirmed using the Bible. Rather than being one man's ideas against another's, it is God's Word that is the authority. I also value the fact that the teachers seem to be very genuine in their love for the Lord, His truth, and the students they are teaching.
How have you personally benefited from attending, or taking correspondence courses at The DeLand School of THE BIBLE?
More than I could have anticipated. The course of study served the purpose of helping me to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, and through my time in Bible school, the Lord directed us to the ministry in which we currently serve, as assistant pastor at BBC.
It has given me a deeper appreciation for my Bible and its truths. It has taught me to study God's word better. Since I began in 2014, God has called me to preach. I have been filling in at different churches in my area when asked, as well as teaching Sunday School at my church. I am currently seeking an opportunity to preach in our local county jails with the Lord's help.
I have benefited very much in my personal walk with the Lord, my daily studies, direction for my family, and I got a full-time position teaching in a private school.
I am currently in my first semester, but it has already given me a closer relationship with the Lord with the extra time spent reading and studying His word.
As a dad I believe I’ve become better equipped to be able to teach my children right doctrine with a right attitude. As a husband I’ve learned to appreciate my wife more, because she has sacrificed a lot with all the time it takes for me being in Bible school. As a business owner and former professional martial arts instructor of 16 years, I really benefited from being a student again and NOT having to teach or make any decisions or solve any problems or give any advice...or be in charge of anything. I really enjoyed being able to just sit back and learn “what the Bible says”! As a student of the word, I benefited from all the study time I’ve spent in the Bible...(especially the class on the book of John). As a witness for Jesus Christ I benefited from all the public outreaches that are made available to the students here.
From taking classes at the DeLand School of the BIBLE I have grown in my knowledge of the Word of God and have also grown in my walk with the Lord.
I have been attending classes for about a year now and I feel like I have grown so much closer to God in this short time than I ever have in my new life in Christ. Not to mention all the actual Bible that I learn on a daily basis practically. It seems like they don't hold any truth back from us, we receive all the counsel of God.
Knowing how to study and teach the Bible for the rest of my life and recognizing false doctrines and false teachings as to not be deceived like so many that have not learned the Bible.
I have grown and continue to grow in my faith and knowledge in the Bible. I have watched the examples of both teachers and other students, which has taught me much. I am continually challenged by the teaching and examples to work harder and go farther than my flesh desires.
At DSB I have learned how to study and how to teach the Holy Bible by allowing the word of God to interpret and define the words of God through the use of cross references, comparing scripture with scripture.
I've learned how to study the Bible, DSB gives you the framework of Biblical knowledge so that you can do your own studies confidently after graduating.
I now have a firm foundation in the Holy Scriptures.
Having never seen it done before, I was greatly encouraged by becoming part of a local church where so many people are not ashamed to take a public stand for our Savior.
Not only have I learned much about God's word, but have learned to apply it to my life in many useful ways.
After just a few months of taking correspondence courses, and having such clear Bible teaching, it is amazing to see God begin to open my eyes to how His Word all fits together in such a tremendous way. These classes are helping to clarify many things for me!
What advice would you give to a prospective student interested in The DeLand School of THE BIBLE?
Count the cost. Not tuition, but the diligence and commitment that are required to be approved of God (2 Timothy 2:15). If you are serious about wholeheartedly dedicating yourself to learning the Bible so you can serve the Lord in whatever capacity He chooses, according to His word, then DSB will be a place where you can study and learn and grow into a workman for the Lord.
If you want Biblical teaching that is rightly divided look no further than this school. Especially if you believe God has called you into a certain sphere of ministry. It is the best in my opinion.
If I was a young man and had to do it all over again, I would have come to DSB first before attending a secular university because it helps with guidance.
If you are married, have a family and work full time DSB correspondence is a great way of gaining a greater understanding of Gods Holy words. Make sure you have the time to invest in the course and don't take the commitment lightly.
My advice to a prospective student would be to study, study, study!! It will only help you!
Be prepared to work hard and study hard. If you can balance your priorities of work, Bible school, church, etc...you’ll do well. If you are coach-able, teach-able and have a humble attitude you’ll REALLY enjoy it here. If you’re a know-it-all and cannot take direction or even correction from others well, it’s best you find another school.
If you are looking for a place where you can have in depth Bible studies and learn straight from the Bible then DeLand School of the BIBLE is for you.
What's holding you back? Luke 9:62. I'm so glad I decided to come here!
Come to DSB for the purpose of: "Studying to shew thyself approved unto God." What you'll find when learning the Bible is continuity in the scriptures (nothing in the Bible contradicts any other parts of the Bible) it will be very challenging because you will be confronted on everything you believe and why you believe it and how the light of the scriptures will either condemn your belief or approve of it. Come with a humble, learning teachable spirit. When you put Christ first as you study the Bible that is a formula for victory in learning the Bible.
Get down here and get busy! There is so much to do. It will be hard work to handle it all at once, but do as much as you can without killing yourself and it will be a blessing.
Whether you start DSB by taking only one class or a full course load my best advice is that you first know your reasons for committing yourself to this course of study and then be fully dedicated to finish what you begin. Through faith in Christ Jesus and through perseverance you will reap the rewards of this life-changing experience.
Don't look elsewhere, if you want to learn the Bible you found the right school.
Be prepared to sacrifice things in your life to learn the Scriptures at the Deland School of the Bible.
I would recommend taking the time to make organized electronic notes during classes, for future reference during your lifetime of Christian ministry.
Attend if you are interested in hearing down to earth Biblical teaching. The courses are not easy, but they are a tremendous blessing. Hard work, diligence, a desire to learn God's word, and a right heart are the four most important tools you can bring with you.
Come into the school with a heart ready to believe the Bible and be able to get rid of things or beliefs the Bible condemns or does not teach.
Take these classes with a heart prepared to study God's Word, and a life ready to go and live out what you learn! You won't regret time spent learning more about our Saviour!
